Short Improvisation #1

Pocket Fig

Pocket Fig (2016)

In this piece, MIGSI sends FSR and IR-collected valve displacement data to Max/MSP to produce a flurry of classic computer music sounds, stutters, and granular synthesis gestures based on the voice and trumpet sounds of the performer, Sarah Belle Reid. The resulting gestures are responsively generated from the player's input, sometimes with added delays and miscalculations to foster variation and generative improvisation.

"Pocket Fig" was written by Sarah Belle Reid and Ryan Gaston in 2016 during MIGSI's early development at California Institute of the Arts.
